SCOTS loves a good joke. The band sings about Southern food and Southern life, all told from an absurdist perspective not unlike that of the old TV show My Name is Earl. The group predates that ingenious program by two decades, but its ongoing trailer park party has maintained a similarly wild and rambunctious vibe. Southern Culture has done well commercially, too. It was signed to Geffen Records in the ’90s, placing songs in numerous film and video game soundtracks. “Weird Al” Yankovic even parodied the band’s jovial style on his 2014 album Mandatory Fun.
