Into the Pit: Quarry Tour

Climb aboard and take a trip with the Siouxland Heritage Museums Into the Pit of the Knife River quarry this summer! Into the Pit quarry tours return in May and June at 9:30 a.m.

From the boom towns of the 1800s to today, quarrying has played a key role for the Sioux Falls area. Although much has changed, many things remain the same, and quarrying still takes place in Minnehaha County.

The museum staff will share a historical perspective, and the Knife River staff will discuss the current techniques used in modern quarrying. Reservations are required, and tours fill up quickly. Recommended for ages 8 and up. Call (605)367-4210 to register beginning May 4th. Only four spots are allowed per reservation. Admission is free.
