Climb aboard and take a trip with the Siouxland Heritage Museums Into the Pit of the Knife River quarry this summer! Into the Pit quarry tours return in May and June at 9:30 a.m.
From the boom towns of the 1800s to today, quarrying has played a key role for the Sioux Falls area. Although much has changed, many things remain the same, and quarrying still takes place in Minnehaha County.
All bus tours will depart from the Irene Hall Museum Resource Center at 4300 N. Westport Avenue. Tours are free and guaranteed to provide payloads of interesting information. The museum staff will share a historical perspective, and the Knife River staff will discuss the current techniques used in modern quarrying. Reservations are required, and tours fill up quickly.
