Thinking About... Art and the Internet with Dr Omar Kholeif
By SSLP Dulwich College

Thinking About - The Future of Art in the Age of the Internet ?

What does the future of art look like? Is it already here, or has it come and gone?

In this talk and conversation, Dr. Omar Kholeif maps out the recent effects that digital culture has had on the world of art. Has the internet transformed the way we see and relate to images, or rather to each other? How has our field of perception been altered by evolving technologies? How have artists fostered new ways of emoting that are determined by these today's technologies? Dr. Kholeif aims to put into context a new language for seeing, feeling, and being that has emerged, from the birth of WWW to the present.

Dr. Omar Kholeif, a writer, curator, and cultural historian, is Director of Collections and Senior Curator at Sharjah Art Foundation, UAE. Named a “Game-changer” by British GQ and one of the “Art World's Global Influencers” on several occasions by the international art magazine Apollo, they have curated more than 100 exhibitions and special projects across the globe. Considered one of the pioneering thinkers on the relationship between art and the internet, Kholeif's books include Moving ImageYou Are Here: Art After the Internet--the first anthology to consider art after the internet; they are also the author of Goodbye, World! Looking at Art in the Digital Age, as well as the forthcoming monograph, Internet Art: The First Thirty Years, coming out from Phaidon in 2022--the most comprehensive history on the subject to date.
