CERN Particle ONLINE School

Year 12 physics students were invited to apply by writing an essay for the Liverpool@CERN Particle School run by Professor Joost Vossebeld and University of Liverpool LHCb and ATLAS experiment research groups. The deadline was in February 2022.

A total of twenty-four students from the SSLP, Sevenoaks, Birmingham and Liverpool areas were selected to join this fantastic scholarly opportunity.

The aim of the Particle School is to give future physicists exposure to the life of researchers at CERN. The students, who work with like-minded peers under the guidance of CERN researchers (PhD students and lecturers), will have access to data from the LHCb experiment at CERN, through dedicated activities and lectures. Many previous delegates have achieved undergraduate places at top universities, and some are now pursuing post-graduate studies in Physics or running start-ups in Silicon Valley!

Particle School logistics and costs

Since the CERN Particle School 2022 will take place online, there will be no cost for this trip. We will ask students to commit to attending all activities. The delegates will be assigned to groups of students from a range of schools, with whom they will conduct activities and projects, in addition to attending online lectures and tours involving all students. The school will broadly follow the itinerary of previous schools across a five day period from Monday 22 August, culminating on Friday 26 August 2022.
