POP UP: An Artistic Adventure is a creative-placemaking and public art project. The audience is guided to a series of site-specific performances via clues on a hand-made map. Over the course of 2-3 days, performances pop-up in windows, parks, and plazas throughout a neighborhood, town or campus, inspired by interviews with local residents. By projecting the dreams and experiences of residents onto everyday spaces, POP UP engages a community in the creation of public art, celebrates the local community, and illuminates our shared humanity. The performances are the culmination of a community-based residency. Local residents co-create and perform alongside professional artists.
POP UP: An Artistic Adventure made its U.S. premiere in 2019 as part of BROOKLYN FALLS FOR FRANCE, a cultural season organized by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the 2019 DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN ARTS FESTIVAL in association with the Irondale Center, the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, and TD Bank Foundation.
